While vacationing on the Big Island of Hawaii, the wave action northeast of the city of Hilo was really
quite a site! Karen and I spent the better part of the late afternoon of December 26, 2010 about
four miles east of Hilo at Richardson Beach Park photographing the huge waves. Some of the waves
were 20 to 25 feet high as this one, in particular, breaks some 100 feet offshore. We had traveled
to the extreme north, as well as south to look for wave action during the week we stayed in Hilo. To
our surprise, the best waves were 2 miles from our Naniloa Volcanoes Resort Hotel all the time!!
