The ENDEAVOUR
spacecraft attached to NASA's modified Boeing 747 (the Shuttle Carrier
Aircraft)
sweeps past Palmdale, California's Plant 47, where she was built
(1988-1991). Delivered to NASA in
May 1991, her first flight, designated STS-49, was in May,
1992. Built to replace the Challenger,
which was lost in a 1986 launch accident, ENDEAVOUR flew 25
missions, traveling over 128 million
miles with a total of 296 days on orbit. The above image
was taken on September 21, 2012 just
outside Plant 47's complex in Palmdale. One of NASA's escort jets
is seen to the left.
