The Prague Castle
photographed on August 15, 2006, while I attended the International
Astronomical
Union's (IAU) General Assembly meeting. This castle in Prague dates back to
the 9th century (870),
and is where kings and emperors have
lived, and more currently, presidents of
Czechoslovakia and the
Czech Republic have had their
offices. The Bohemian Crown Jewels are archived
here. Here the castle
is seen from the southeast, looking across the Vltava River. The
castle is said to be the largest complex
of its kind in the world, measuring some 1870 x 426 feet. The
dominant feature is St. Vitus Cathedral.
