Mountains of southeastern Arizona. This mountain range has some
7000 feet of vertical
relief, making it the only such range in the entire state. Even
more unusual is that this range has the
highest habitat diversities of any mountain range on the entire North
American continent. The highest
point in this mountain range is Mount Graham at 10720 feet, and just
visible on the right in this image
taken February 14, 2012. Mount Graham is the home of the Large
Binocular Telescope (LBT), as well
as some of the most advanced astronomical instruments found anywhere in
the world. The LBT will give
astronomers even greater clarity than the Hubble Space Telescope!
