The Milky Way Galaxy as seen from the south rim of Grand Canyon National Park on May 13, 2011.
The skies were exceptional clear (as noted by the helicopter pilot in a flight I took over the canyon
some five hours later when he stated, "...we only see skies this clear once a year!") for this 4 AM
photograph taken in a dark parking lot next to Yavapai Point. This image was taken with a Canon
EOS 1Ds Mark III, using a 24mm lens set at f/1.8 for 15 seconds on a fixed tripod.
