Brian G. Marsden 1937 - 2010
The astronomy community at large lost one of the giants in the field, when Brian Geoffrey Marsden died
November 18, 2010. He was 73. The author took the above picture of Brian in August 2006, while we
attended the International Astronomical Union's General Assembly in Prague, the Czech Republic, and saw
Brian during the initial discussions that centered around re-classifying Pluto from its 'planet' status to
that of a 'dwarf' planet. Brian will be solely missed by all amateur and professional astronomers who
knew this true friend in the field. My work centered around asteroid and comet recovery, confirmation
and discovery, and allowed me to interface with Brian during the seven years before I retired in 2009.
